Which platform is best for blogging, Blogger.com or free Wordpress.com

If you eventually intend to get serious about blogging, I would recommendWordPress.com: Create a free website or blog so you already have the skills to use the most popular platform there is by far.

Eventually you will probably want to use self-hosted WordPress. Although it does cost money, it is also far more powerful. Either way, you can register your own domain name and point it to your free site if you wish. Read Why You Must CONTROL and OWN Your Own Domain for why.

I would actually place Medium ahead of both these platforms. There is less clutter, a simpler and cleaner interface for posting and medium’s design and typeface kicks ass :)

The beauty of medium is also in the fact that you can import your blogs from Wordpress and Blogger and have an automatical backlink to the original article and, even more cool, the page on medium with the imported link is canonicalised to the original source URL, passing link juice to your own site, rather than keeping it for themselves. That’s awesome.

I would suggest WordPress.com: Create a free website or blog is a better option than blogger due to availability of more customization than Blogger.com - Create a unique and beautiful blog. It’s easy and free.

It depends on the type of blogging you want to do. WordPress is one of the most popular along with Drupal and Joomla trailing behind. Free WordPress is ok as long as you don’t want to customize much.

Both are good blogging platform. You can select either of them to use their blogging platform.However if you need full customization support and you want full control over your blog, you should consider self-hosted WordPress blog instead of Blogger or WordPress.com. I’d say WordPress is your best bet. Spend a few bucks for hosting and a domain, and use WordPress .org though, especially if you’re looking to generate revenue through it.

If you just want to do blogging for the sake of blogging; Most blogging platforms will be okay as they were all designed for blogging. What will define which one is better will depend on your personal goal for your blog, the functionality that you want to add to it as well as the familiarity you have with the tool.

The downside of going free is that you tipically don’t own what you built and if you were to go anywhere else you almost always have to start over.

While there are many limitations of BlogSpot in terms of functionalities and SEO benefit, if you just need a platform to start a blog with at almost 0 cost, BlogSpot is the right pick.

At the same time, if you are blogging for money, building authority, or for branding yourself, BlogSpot is not the ideal choice. This is because you have limited control over visibility in search engines, and after a while, you become very limited when you want to add new features.

I have read it many times:

In a nutshell, the Blogger platform is better than WordPress when you are creating a blog for no other reason than you want to write. If you are OK with the limited features offered by the Blogger platform, then this is a great choice.
